Suzie Vinnick to Perform as part of the Wheels & Wings Festival In Van Wert May 21st!
Singer-songwriters are dime a dozen - and that accounts for inflation. They come. They go. Many of them have the requisite 'voice’ and necessary perspective while some possess the talent required to attract your attention. Yet few rise above the ether.
Suzie Vinnick is different. Like so many others, she doesn’t perform because she wants to. She performs because she’s driven to. And, as anyone who’s followed her career knows – she never merely attracts your attention. She captures it – and holds it prisoner.
With the release of her latest solo album – Happy Here – Suzie Vinnick serves notice that it’s her time to claim the same spotlight she’s always been so eager to share. "I feel the need to pull the reins in a bit and focus a little more this year, " she says of her penchant for alternate projects. Happy Here is an artistic statement that speaks to the realization that the time has come to move forward based on her own merits. She has much to be happy about.
All artists dread to be name-checked or pigeon-holed. Yet if such is necessary to help define Suzie’s wide-ranging stylistic muse, then references to no less than Emmylou Harris, Shawn Colvin, and Joni Mitchell are called for.

Gabrielle Louise will be rescheduled for another time
"Gabrielle Louise is a deceiving package. Though young and beautiful, the guitar-playing singer/songwriter sounds like an older woman. Her pop/country blend is distinctly adult-contemporary in flavor and boasts mature lyrics. Lovers of folk music will appreciate Louise's strong voice, which she uses with equal success on stunning high notes and rumbling lows."-- The Gazette (Colorado Springs, CO)
"Articulate and gifted, Gabrielle Louise... is an artist who comes to music from a literary vantage point, first and foremost...But the lyrics standing alone are only part of the story...As a vocalist Gabrielle Louise dives deep into her songs, exploring them in a warm, sturdy voice reminiscent at times of Joni Mitchell...especially in the falsetto flights and lower register swoops...She executes a captivating balance of heartache and resolve."
David Rynhart must be one of Denver’s better best-kept secrets, which is odd considering how great an artist he is, because I was not acquainted with his work until being handed this CD, and I’m quite grateful for the introduction. As a Folk artist, Rynhart brings into focus new territory but, if pressed, could be described as channeling equally a bit of Ben Folds and later Beatles’ sounds. (His list of influences on MySpace includes Paul Simon and one of my personal favorites, Sigur Ros.) Rynhart plays the guitar, piano and flute very well and orchestrates compelling songs, but where he really flattens competition is with his lyrical narrative. Just wow. He’s definitely as fine a poet as the Metro area can muster.

Sarah Peacock will be performing in Van Wert on Saturday August 13th at 8PM
Sarah Peacock was my favorite. She performed songs from her upcoming album ‘Straight for your heart’. It was Janis Joplin meets Alanis Morissette. Being a girl that loves rock Sarah appealed to me because she has edginess about her. Armed with a huge voice and unbelievable range, Sarah belted out several tunes including the title track ‘Straight for your heart’. I felt that Sarah was very outgoing, the kind of person that doesn’t know a stranger. Her songs were well written and had meaning. Her look, her entire act for lack of a better word has commercial appeal. Sarah Peacock is ready for Stardom!

FRED GILLEN JR With Catherine Miles -- 8pm
Van Wert, OH
"uplifting, passionate, and emotional performer."
—Donegal Democrat, Ireland
"unvarnished social commentary with folkified hoot-and-holler melodies"
—Sing Out!
"Gillen's CD has an earthy, straw-like smell for your ears. It has the grazing touch of a brick wall against the back of your hand. It has very ball-point-pen-on-blue-lined-paper written lyrics. It is honest and quirky."
--Craig Gilbert, New Haven Advocate
"New York singer/ songwriter Gillen may have East Coast origins, but his style and intensity reflect a down-home sensibility."
—Ron Wynne, Nashville Scene
"Gillen performs a straight-ahead style that blends the earthiness of Americana, the punch of rock & roll, and the confessional quality of folk."
—Pete Hanson, Metroland, Albany, NY

Kurt Scobie will be performing Live in Van Wert on Friday November 4th at 8PM Doors Open at 7
"Kurt is a wonderful and talented musician. His vocals are spot-on! Whether singing Billy Joel, Elton John or his own beautifully written songs, Kurt has an exceptional gift of music, that everyone needs to hear! We will have him return to our campus." -Denise Brewer - Director of Student Activities, Montana State University-Northern
Every time Kurt Scobie sits down at the keys, the power of his expressive lyrics and percussive piano style have a magnetic effect on the entire room. The lyrics strike a familiar chord but carry a refreshing tone, and the catchy melodies enable listeners to sing along, even after hearing his songs for the first time. On and off the stage, Kurt is consistently friendly and respectfully honest.
Kurt Scobie lives in Atlanta, GA, but he is most at home when he is on the road and meeting new people. Since 2008 he has performed over 400 shows, including three NACA showcases, and a performance for the Atlanta Braves. Kurt has also shared the stage with The Civil Wars, Matthew Perryman Jones, Montell Jordan, and Mike Kinnebrew. Influences such as Mat Kearney, Dave Matthews and Jason Mraz have helped Kurt create a sound that is winning over audiences across the country.
In his free time you can usually catch Kurt reading an amazing book, drinking an amazing craft beer or eating amazing sushi.

The GREAT Dana Cooper will be performing live in Van Wert on Friday November 11th at 8PM
Out of the heartland of America, stomping grounds of Truman and Twain, "powerhouse" troubadour Dana Cooper dedicated himself to a life of music over 40 years ago. This song poet engages and inspires audiences around the world with his quick wit, insightful stories and commanding presence. He has performed on Austin City Limits, Mountain Stage and the Kerrville Folk Festival where he was nominated for their Hall of Fame. Cooper’s songs have been recorded by top-notch artists such as bluegrass star Claire Lynch; Irish vocalist Maura O’Connell; and luminary songwriters Pierce Pettis and Susan Werner. Cooper’s mixture of flat-picking, finger-picking and percussive strumming style is legend among other guitarists. An expressive singer his voice is ageless evoking a rich lifetime of experience.
"This veteran song poet is a self-contained road warrior--a man of many tunes and tunings, and a right hand few guitarists will ever know. His music is vital, and live you see him channel all his energy into the song. The songs are smart, but they come from his heart." —Frank Goodman, puremusic.com
"...the kind of idealistic Whitmanesque songs of experience that not many people are singing these days. Put all this together and you have something that sounds suspiciously like wisdom." —James M. Manheim, Ann Arbor Observer
"He’s clever, deep, crafty, poetic, melodic, ironic, and hilarious-- in short, the best." —Kate Wallace Trinity Backstage
